San Miguel



Silver Creek



 



The elections for these villages were postponed on the May 16, 2010.

PRESS RELEASE



 



The Elections and Boundaries Department hereby informs the general public that the 2010 Village Council Elections are scheduled to be held from the 11th April 2010 to 6th June, 2010.



Pursuant to 35 (1) of the Village Council Act, chapter 88 of the Laws of Belize, the Elections and Boundaries Commission is responsible for the formulation of regulations relating to elections, which includes the provisions for the qualifications and registration of electors.



Subsequent to the above, Statutory Instrument No. 134 of 2009 (Village Council (Elections) Regulations, 2009) was enacted for the 2010 Village Council Elections. In order to allow for a smooth functioning of the 2010 Elections and in consistent with the Village Councils Act. The public is informed of the following.         



Qualifications for Chairperson/Councilors of a Village/Community Council are:-



(a) A citizen of Belize; and



(b)Has ordinarily resided in the village for at least one year immediately preceding the election; and



(c) Is at least eighteen years old



 A person is eligibe to vote in a Village or Community Council Elections where that person:-



 (a) Is on the official voters list for that village or community; or



(b) Is a Belizean by birth or naturalization is at least eighteen years of age and has been residing in the village for a continuous period of not less than two months prior to the date of election; or



(c) A permanent resident in Belize, and is in possession of a Permanent Residence Card or proof of possession thereof, is at least eighteen years of age and has been residing in the village for a continuous period of not less than two months prior to the date of election.



Residents are also reminded that they are entitled to vote in only one village or community council election for that period.



Electors are further reminded that the scheduled dates and places of elections are being published in the weekly newspapers and announced on the radio stations.
